MY QUEST FOR ZEST...
My study abroad semester made me realize my love for new culture, exploration, new foods, and new people. I was given the opportunity to au pair for a family in Istanbul, Turkey in the summer after graduation. This gave me the chance to work and travel. It gave me the chance to be fully immersed in a new culture, traditions and location. With the family I also vacationed in Greece and Switzerland. I learned a lot about not just my surroundings, but myself during this time. My favorite part of the experience was... the food! It was so authentic, so fresh and wholesome!
After the summer ended, I took my earnings and traveled for several months. I went to Poland, visited friends from study abroad in England, and spent two months working in a hostel in Spain, and adventured into Portugal. On time off during my work/trade I explored neighboring cities in the south of Spain. My parents came to vacation in Europe and I met them in Italy where we did some historic sight seeing and island exploring.
I highly recommend the website WorkAway for those looking for volunteer gigs that offer accommodation and sometimes food in exchange for 4-6 hours a day of labor.
This experience deepened my ever growing love for travel. I met friends that will last a life time and made memories that will shape me forever.
(At the time I was vegetarian, hence the fondu in Switzerland, feta cheese in Greece, etc.)
